After $35 million of investment, avionics and communications firm Rockwell and media mammoth NewsCorp have decided to shelve development of their project to offer email and internet access to aircraft passengers due to lack of interest.

The satellite-operated scheme, titled In-Flight Network, failed to attract a single large carrier, not even for a trial, prompting Rockwell to “cease further investments”.

When the venture was launched last June, the two companies said they were eager to target a potentially huge market of business travellers. However, now all a non-committal NewsCorp spokesman would say was: “We're evaluating our options.”
