Sunday tabloid News of the World may undergo a revamp early next year in a bid to drive readership up from four to five million.

Owner News International is believed to be mulling a change in the design of the main paper and an overhaul of the magazine section.

One proposal is the replacement of the Sunday magazine with a TV listings guide alongside the launch of a new celebrity-focused supplement.

Editor Rebekah Wade, a controversial figure after her ‘name and shame’ campaign against paedophiles, has already sought to bolster the tabloid’s coverage of celebrities and entertainment since her appointment in May.

The paper refused to comment on the revamp.
