British ad watchdog the Advertising Standards Authority is gaining two new council members.
Joining are Jean Coussins, ceo of the Portman Group (the alcohol industry’s self-regulatory organisation), and Sunil Gadhia, finance partner at law firm Stephenson Harwood.
They fill the shoes of Diane Yeo, executive director of RefAid, and Harry Rich, business director for the Design Council, both of whom are stepping down from the council after completing the maximum six years of service.
The ASA council judges whether an ad breaches the CAP code – or, to give it its full title, the British Code of Advertising, Sales Promotion and Direct Marketing. Coussins’ appointment in particular is significant, reflecting the body’s recent attempts to ensure alcohol ads remain responsible.
