LONDON: Emap Communications, which these days runs adland's glitziest gongfest, the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival, has named a new ceo for the annual event. And, Ladeez and Gennelmun, the award for Grasping the Lions by the Tail in 2007 goes to . . .

. . . Philip Thomas (45), managing director at Emap Media until his foray into the lions' den. He replaces previous ceo Penny Reid, who survived in the hotseat less than one month after concluding her first festival in June.

Not only will Thomas preside over the seven day Cannes-Can, he also shoulders responsibility for the new Dubai Lynx awards for the Middle East ad industry, and the Eurobest awards.

In addition. Lions operations director Carolyn Lowery is elevated to the role of festival director
