PARIS: French telecoms titan Neuf Cegetel has bought AOL France for €288 million ($368.5m; £193.8m) in cash. As part of the deal, it also acquired AMSE, a 500-person operation providing customer services to AOL subscribers.
The French AOL portal attracts nearly 5.5 million unique visitors a month and boasts over 500,000 broadband customers. The purchase will boost Neuf Cegetel's subscriber portfolio to over 9 million unique users monthly.
AOL's parent, AOL Europe, will also provide Neuf with an online ad sales service, with revenues shared between the two companies.
The deal requires a green light from the French competition regulator which is expected by the end of October.
