Nationwide, Britain's largest mutually-owned high street mortgage lender, has renewed its sponsorship commitment to UK soccer with a four-year, £30 million, agreement with the Football Association.

This includes the renewal of Nationwide’s joint sponsorship of the England team (alongside sportswear manufacturer Umbro), plus exclusive patronage of the nation’s female soccer eleven and sponsorship of the FA Cup.

In all there will be five members of the FA’s commercial partner programme, said to be worth more than £300m in aggregate. Two are now signed and three are said to be in the final stages of negotiation.

The cash-strapped Football League, currently embroiled in a bruising dispute with ITV Digital over the renegotiation of broadcast rights [WAMN: 26-Mar-02], is said the be “as sick as a parrot, Brian” over the good fortune of its cash-sated rival.
