Cancellation of all National Football League games in the wake of last week’s US terrorist tragedy has caused Japanese video games giant Sega to postpone the TV launch of a $20 million campaign for its new Sports brand video games.
Having recently quit the video games hardware sector, Sega is now focusing on software with its 2k2 range of sports games designed to run a number of platforms including Sony PlayStation2 and Microsoft's Xbox. TV commercials for the games (from Leagas Delaney, San Francisco) were due to break in the Monday evening football slot, September 17, since canceled.
Other elements of the campaign – website Segasports.com, radio ads, sampling and promotional activity – are proceeding as planned. Sega is also sponsoring the Super Bowl and Christmas Day’s Las Vegas Bowl college football game.
