The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, a non-profit body which manages internet names and addresses on behalf of the US government, is meeting this week in Japan for its annual conference.

As the current number of available top-level domain suffixes (.com, .net, .org, etc) rapidly dwindles, the creation of additional names is a priority on ICANN’s agenda. New suffixes under consideration include .tra (travel), .mus (museum) and .ban (bank).
