THE WORLD’S BIGGEST food company, Swiss-based Nestlé, disappointed investors with its admission that it had failed to meet its 4% sales growth target in 1998, following an unexpected drop in sales during November and December. Setting aside currency fluctuations, Nestlé’s underlying sales growth was only 3.3%.
