TOKYO: Media giant News Corporation is reported to be in talks to launch a Japanese version of its hugely successful social networking website An announcement was expected today (Tuesday).

NewsCorp would run the venture with Softbank, Japan's second-largest broadband service. Investment in the project would total around ¥1 billion ($8.5m; €6.6m; £4.4m).

MySpace Japan would likely target cellphone users in addition to the country's growing online population, as younger users in particular spend more time networking through their mobile devices.
