PARIS: Consumers in France are demonstrating increasing enthusiasm for the mobile internet, a new study has revealed.
Médiamétrie, the research firm, reported that 16.1m people accessed the web via this route during the opening three months of 2011, a 27% improvement on an annual basis.
Overall, an estimated 37% of the entire subscriber base now engages in such a pastime or use applications, the company said.
More specifically, 94.1% of this audience viewed at least one website or portal, and 48.5% of individuals owning a device like the iPhone and alternatives powered by Google Android used a mobile app.
These trends have been encouraged by rising smartphone penetration, currently standing at 31.4%, nearly three times the figure recorded two year ago.
