In a bid to strengthen its slippery grip on Unilever’s international media business, MindShare Worldwide has shuffled several of its senior managers.
As part of the restructuring, Nick Waters – European managing partner in charge of the Ford in Europe business – is transferring to the new Singapore-based post of chief executive for south-east Asia, taking responsibility for Unilever in the Asia Pacific region.
Dominic Proctor, MindShare’s chief operating officer who masterminded the reshuffle, denied this was a step down for Waters: “We have decided to invest in our infrastructure and are keen to get the most experienced people to manage in terms of both client and geography.”
MindShare won the $700 million consolidated US media planning and broadcast buying account late last year [WAMN: 30-Nov-01], but more recently lost pitches for the consumer goods giant’s duties in Thailand ($46m) and South Africa ($40m) [WAMN: 17-May-01].
Stepping into Waters’ shoes in charge of Ford in Europe is Nick Kelvin, previously managing partner for Unilever Worldwide, a post to be filled in turn by Phil Cowdell, formerly responsible for Unilever in the EMEA region.
Separately, Andrew Valencia, MindShare’s managing partner for IBM EMEA, is Sydney-bound to become regional managing partner responsible for the computer giant’s business in Asia Pacific. Duncan Coates, who shared the IBM business in EMEA with Valencia, takes full control in the region.
