Microsoft Dominant in Chart of Most Popular UK Websites

Microsoft owns four of the UK’s five most popular web destinations, according to new research from Jupiter MMXI measuring unique visitors to websites.

Of the 18.5 million Britons who went online last month, over 50% paid a visit to MSN.co.uk or MSN.com, while just under half went to Microsoft.com or the software giant’s email offering Passport.com.

The only non-Microsoft site in the first five was Yahoo.com in fourth place.

The top ten sites (with unique visitor numbers and digital reach in parentheses) were:

1. MSN.co.uk (9.57m, 51.7%)
2. MSN.com (9.54, 51.5%)
3. Microsoft.com (9.1m, 49.2%)
4. Yahoo.com (8.42m, 45.5%)
5. Passport.com (7.71m, 41.7%)
6. Freeserve.com (5.98m, 32.3%)
7. Google.com (5.82m, 31.5%)
8. BBC.co.uk (5.43m, 29.3%)
9. MSN messenger service (5.35m, 28.9%)
10. Askjeeves.co.uk (5.03m, 27.2%)
