LUXEMBOURG: Metro International, publisher of free daily newspapers around the world, reports a modest return to profit in the second quarter.
Net profit reached $900,000 (€651k; £436k), compared to a $4.6 million profit in same period a year ago. Metro reported a loss in Q1.
Net sales increased year-on-year by 6.9%, from $112.1m to $119.8m. Sales growth was 11.7%, excluding disposals in Finland and Poland.
The company, which publishes papers in over 100 major cities in twenty countries, saw a strong performance in Holland, Greece, Portugal and Chile, but slow trading in Sweden, France and Denmark
