LUXEMBOURG: Global free newspaper group Metro International has named Per Mikael Jensen as its new president/ceo to succeed Pelle Törnberg.

Jensen (pictured) was previously global editor-in-chief at Metro and will rejoin the company in November when he leaves his current role as ceo of Danish TV channel TV2.

Rah-rahs Jensen, who will be based in London: "Metro is a young company, with many young and talented employees and strong positions in a number of large advertising markets. It has significant potential to further develop its position."

Metro International, which posted a modest return to profits for the second quarter, publishes in over 100 cities across Europe, America and Asia, including Paris, Amsterdam, New York and Hong Kong.

Törnberg has already left Metro and chief operating officer Chris Spalding is acting as interim ceo.
