NEW YORK: Automaker Mercedes-Benz has named its fifth US marketing vp in eight years with the appointment of Steve Cannon, formerly of Dallas-based independent advertising agency The Richards Group.

Cannon held a variety of posts at Mercedes earlier in his career, and also worked on the Hyundai account for Richards.

He will be responsible for marketing communications, market research and product management for Mercedes and the company's Maybach marque (pictured above), reporting to president/ceo Ernst Lieb.

Mercedes spends more than $200 million (€150.6bn; £101.5bn) on US advertising, according to Nielsen Monitor-Plus.
