Recently merged pharmaceutical colossus GlaxoSmithKline yesterday confirmed reports that it has selected New York’s MediaCom, a unit of the Grey Global Group, to handle its $600 million consolidated media buying duties.

MediaCom triumphed against three other New York shops – Media Edge (WPP), Media Direct Partners (Interpublic) and the Media Planning Group (Havas) [WAMN: 05-Feb-01].

All four finalists were previously responsible for media buying for Glaxo Wellcome and SmithKline Beecham before their clients merged.
