T-Online, the Deutsche Telekom-owned internet service provider, is to partner Europe’s largest newspaper publisher Axel Springer Verlag in a joint venture that will create the largest online advertising sales organisation in Europe.

The move is the second stage of an online alliance between the two titans, announced in the spring [WAMN: 05-Apr-01], and hailed at the time by DT’s chief executive Ron Sommer as “the first building block for further potential projects for both companies”.

The latest Springer/T-Online venture coincides with a surge in internet and ad sales alliances, such as that announced last week by two other German media colossi – Burda and Milchstrasse.
