McDonald's burgers seemingly remain flavour of the month among Europe's gourmets.

The fast food giant reports that global sales rose 3.4% in October - the 30th consecutive monthly increase. Strong demand in France and Germany helped boost overall European sales by 3.3%, while US diners were tempted by healthier options, extended opening hours and a Monopoly promotional game which together hiked sales by 3%.

Comparable sales for Asia/Pacific, the Middle East and Africa showed an increase of 4.3%, led by Australia and Japan.

Ceo Jim Skinner says he is pleased with the results, but concedes there is more to do: "We will continue to focus on improving service, enhancing menu variety and building brand relevance to drive sales and profits at our existing restaurants."

The Illinois-headquartered fast-food Gargantua has 30,000 restaurants worldwide.
