After a quarter of a century with fast-food giant McDonald's, Andrew Taylor is stepping down as UK chairman/ceo.

Following gentle coercion from US executives, the ailing UK operation looks set to restructure, with the role of chief marketing officer, John Hawkes also on the line. The stateside telescope is similarly trained on the performance of Leo Burnett London.

Although UK sales increased by 4% year-on-year for the first half of 2004, they lag far behind global levels of 8.5%, due largely to advertising strategy difficulties, according to reports.

Taylor will be replaced by Peter Beresford, currently executive vice-president for McDonald's Japan.
