Interpublic Group network McCann-Erickson WorldGroup is to tread the trail blazed by Omnicom and Havas in setting up a network dedicated to pharmaceutical marketing.
McCann HumanCare, will incorporate its parent’s current crop of pharma clients – among them Aventis (Allegra) Berlex Laboratories (Mirena, Yasmin, Climara) GlaxoSmithKline (Paxil) and Novartis (Lotrel).
And to head the fledgling as managing director, Interpublic has poached Andrew Schirmer, former president and executive creative director of rival Omnicom shop Merkely Newman Harty Healthworks.
Schirmer has been charged with expanding HumanCare’s remit beyond pharmaceutical direct-to-consumer and over-the-counter markets and into the rarefied realms of vitamins, nutritionals, health and fitness, medical plans and life insurance.
