Toy manufacturer Mattel has announced new plans for its flagship marque Barbie.

At the International Toy Fair in New York this week, the company unveiled plans to launch Barbie-branded clothing, cosmetics, a bath and beauty range plus other consumer products.

Mattel is also extending the brand into electronics and home furnishings, with an ad campaign scheduled to launch the range later this year.

Other plans for the pint-sized blonde include an animated video Barbie in The Nutcracker slated for October 2001, to be accompanied by a host of similarly themed products and a tie-in promotion with McDonald’s.
