Maiden Outdoor, Britain's largest independent outdoor advertising contractor, yesterday reported full-year pre-tax profits more than doubled, from £5 million to £13m ($19m). And, bucking the downward trend in other advertising sectors, Maiden also unveiled a Q1 sales revenue increase of 22% over the same period in 2000.

All key elements of Maiden’s business were in excellent shape, reported chief executive Ron Zeghibe - from large format highway billboards to those in grocery outlets and shopping malls, as well as sites across the entire UK railway network.

Commented Zeghibe: “There is a growing move by advertisers towards the outdoor medium, making it one of the fastest growing areas of advertising.” The group is also looking for European mergers and alliances.
