MYSTERY MANAGER BRINGS “FRESH PAIR OF EYES” TO TRINITY MIRROR

News, 15 September 2000

A unnamed senior executive with zero experience of the national and regional newspaper industry has been recruited to a key role by the Trinity Mirror Group.

The mystery newcomer has a background in the consumer goods sector but remains anonymous whilst still negotiating a release from his present position. According to Trinity chief executive Philip Graf, the appointment will introduce “a fresh pair of eyes” to the group.

The hiring was announced yesterday at the same time as the group’s results for the half-year to June – a 14.7% increase to £104.5 million before the cost of exceptionals and internet investments. The latter would generate an operating loss of £37m in the full year.

Trinity was formed from last year’s merger of Britain's largest regional newspaper group with Mirror Group, owner of The Mirror national daily and the Sunday Mirror.
