UK satellite broadcaster BSkyB was last Thursday given the green light by the Court of Munich to complete its purchase of a 24 %, DM2.9bn stake in German broadcaster KirchPayTV.

As a result of the acquisition’s clearance, Dieter Hahn, vice-chairman of KirchPayTV's parent company KirchGruppe , has been appointed a non-executive director of BSkyB.

Sky has now clenched its grip on soccer broadcasting rights in Germany. Last week its parent News Corp took a 34% per cent stake in tm3, the Munich-based channel that holds the German rights to the UEFA Champions League. KirchPayTV recently bought the worldwide rights to Germany's premier competition, the Bundesliga.
