IN A COUP for the direct media agency, chief executive Ken Mansfield has enticed former BSkyB sales director Tony Vickers out of retirement and onto the board of Mansfield Lang Direct. Vickers, who is widely credited with pulling Sky out of the financial mire in its early days, becomes non-executive chairman of the agency with a remit to help its clients capitalise on digital TV.

Automobile Association is to pull down the shutters at 142 of its retail shops, making 1,000 staff redundant. Says a spokesman, 'People are buying things in different ways. They're more used to paying for things over the phone.'
