ONLINE BUSINESS information vendor, MAID, run by flamboyant ex-adman Dan Wagner, is in the news again - not this time due to the melodramatic short-selling activities of Euro-Gnomes but because of an attempt to change the direction of the loss-making business. Wagner says his company is in talks with Lotus Developments, the IBM-owned software vendor whose most significant current product is ‘Notes’, software for corporate networks. The discussions are at an early stage and centre round MAID’s InfoSort search engine technology. As the peddling of information packages becomes ever more cut-throat, Wagner presumably sees software marketing as the road out of the woods. Meantime, MAID’s operating loss over the first three months of 1997 dwindled from (£1.89m) to (£1.21m).
