M&C Saatchi, whose stratospheric profile eclipses its rankings in UK agency billings and earnings tables, has crept into ninety-seventh place in The Sunday Times list of Britain’s Top 100 private companies by profits growth.

But with growth of 24% (to £4.4 million) for 1999-2000, London-headquartered Saatchi is overshadowed by the less modish but faster accelerating provincial shop Golley Slater, whose head office is in the Welsh capital, Cardiff.

Golley saw its profits grow by 61% (to £4.3m) for the same period, propelling it to 28th place in the Sunday Times table – sixty-nine rungs up on its London rival.
