Eleventh-hour e-tailer Lastminute.com has posted a £35.7 million loss for the 2000 financial year, a figure slightly greater than analysts’ expectations.

However, Lastminute also reported 2.85m registered subscribers, up 37% on last year. A total of £34.2m in transactions took place via the online service, massively up on the £2.6m of 1999.

Chairman Allan Leighton, former Asda chief executive, hailed the figures as showing “solid growth …with costs and losses contained within plan”. He conceded, however, that there is “still a lot to do”.
