Lagardere, the world’s largest magazine publisher, is planning a digital TV channel on land-based French networks in 2002.
French newspaper La Tribune claimed the media group intends to use its publications Le Journal du Dimanche and Paris Match, and its radio station Europe 1, to feed the new channel. However, the venture will have only 10% of the funding of TF1, France’s top commercial TV station.
This would not be Lagardere’s first move into TV broadcasting. It already owns 34% of Canal Plus’s satellite arm Canalsatellite, and has several French theme channels of its own.
