John Kerry's presidential campaign on Wednesday lifted the wraps from its fall advertising drive -- total spend $45 million (€36.9m; £25.08m). The campaign will kick into play this weekend, immediately after the Republican circus in New York.
The first spots will carpet bomb ten states, their identity not disclosed by Kerry campaign managers. This will be followed in another ten crucial states no later than November 2. In addition to network TV, the campaign will also run on cable as well as black and Hispanic media.
But although the Kerry camp is coy about the geography of its campaign, it is widely recognized that the key states are Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Louisiana, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Washington state, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
Commented one slightly biased observer: "It's laughable that [the democrats] announce. They have no real message or vision other than process stories."
At least, that's the opinion of Matthew Dowd -- the Bush campaign's chief strategist.
