TOKYO: Japan's leading online shopping portal, Rakuten, is facing the wrath of broadcasters over plans to increase its 19.86% stake in television network Tokyo Broadcasting System.

The two firms were involved in a bitter takeover battle 18 months ago [WARC News: 05-Dec-05] which resulted in the present tense relationship.

TBS affiliates have roundly snubbed Rakuten's ambitions, claiming "the network of affiliates would collapse or be undermined".
