J Walter Thompson is merging its San Francisco office with Tonic 360, the interactive shop it bought last year after the two cooperated to win the $100 million Sun Microsystems account.
The combined, full-service shop, branded JWT & TONIC, boasts clients such as Pacific Gas & Electric, Diageo/United Distillers & Vintners, Infineon Technologies, Northern California Ford Dealers and Cheap Tickets Inc, not to mention Sun Microsystems. Combined billings are reported at $220m, with J Walter Thompson West claiming $347m.
In charge are Kevin Burke, former general manager of Tonic 360, who takes up the same post plus that of managing partner at the new agency, and Iwan Thomas, general manager of JWT San Francisco, who becomes JWT & TONIC’s managing partner and director of strategic planning. Both answer to Peter Stranger, ceo of JWT West.
