Interpublic Group is to establish a new internal team to improve its handling of Coca-Cola’s global duties.
Chief executive John Dooner has devised a plan dubbed The Coke Solution, which will incorporate into a single unit all the creatives, account directors and executives from the manifold Interpublic shops handling the soft drinks giant’s business.
Overseeing the integrated team will be Bill Grogan, group management director at McCann-Erickson, who will answer to Gunnar Wilmot, the holding company’s senior vp–planning and business development.
“It’ll be a more organized way of dealing with the client that makes sense,” one unnamed insider commented. “It means a clearer definition of roles and heightens awareness of those roles across agency resources.”
McCann’s tenure on the flagship Coca-Cola Classic account has looked shaky of late. It has been searching for a new creative director for the duties for several months, and recently lost the creative lead on the business to WPP Group’s Berlin Cameron/Red Cell in New York.
