Interpublic Group chairman/ceo John Dooner, yesterday (Wednesday) dropped a broad hint that a melding of three IPG agency units is imminent.
Speaking at yet another investment bank media talkfest, Dooner told CSFB conference attendees that three IPG subsidiaries – ad network Lowe Worldwide, direct marketer DraftWorldwide and interactive shop Zipatoni - are targeted for “closer alignment”. Although grouped within IPG’s Partnership division, the trio currently operate independently.
But having offered delegates this appetizer, Dooner declined to serve the main course. No final decisions about the ‘alignment’ have been made, he said.
Asked why the move was necessary, Dooner was more forthcoming. Increasingly these days, he said, clients are demanding to know whether an advertising agency can deliver marketing programs in multiple disciplines.
“What, just like it used to be back in the 60s and 70s,” innocently inquired a grizzled observer?
