A DISCLAIMER of responsibility for financial ads on the Internet has been issued by the UK Securities and Investment Board. The City regulator warned that it cannot police all electronic information: ‘Investors should treat information on the Internet as if it were unsolicited junk mail. The Net is an intergalactic car boot sale, so investors really should watch what they are doing. Our interest is in cases of actual consumer harm; we are not taking an unrealistic approach towards material which is passively available.’ Practical advice is available on the SIB site (sib.co.uk).
