The Advertising Standards Council of India took action against sixteen ad campaigns by different companies in the first quarter of the year. The firms in violation of the ASCI code include Korean carmaker Hyundai and consumer goods giant Hindustan Lever.

Seven advertisers were asked to completely withdraw their campaigns, while nine were required to modify their ads.

HL's shampoo brand Clinic All Clear, being endorsed by a high-profile Bollywood couple, was found guilty of "false and misleading" campaigns on its billboards and radio commercials after it was promoted as a solution to hair fall. The advertising was ordered to be removed from both media.

Meanwhile a commercial from oil company BPCL was found to encourage excessive speed and dangerous driving on a busy roadway in the absence of any caution notice to viewers.

ASCI ordered the firm to withdraw the commercial and told it to run a statutory warning if it wants to continue with the campaign.
