LONDON: In the wake of continuing speculation as to the makeover intentions of ITV's recently appointed executive chairman, Michael Grade, some see the departure of commercial director Ian McCulloch as the first tremor of imminent seismic change.

Although the partyline is that McCulloch's departure, announced Wednesday, is amicable, he is a member of the former Praetorian guard that surrounded ousted ceo Charles Allen.

Says McCulloch, with nary an autocue in sight: "After twenty-seven years with ITV it feels like the right time for me to explore new opportunities.

"We now have a refocused sales structure and marketing operation that reflect the needs of our customers much more effectively. With those changes in place and the new strategy bearing fruit it's time for me to face some fresh challenges elsewhere."

It is reported that the ITV veteran has no other job in prospect and that the search for his successor is under way.
