LONDON: The UK's biggest commercial broadcaster, ITV, has announced the launch of a new global unit that will distribute TV content, home entertainment, consumer and publishing products to over 200 countries worldwide.

ITV Global Entertainment will form part of the company's international content division, led by president/managing director Peter Iacono.

ITVGE will combine the broadcaster's domestic and international production and content operations, including distribution operations ITV Worldwide and Granada International, plus consumer products and licensing specialist Granada Ventures.

The consolidated company is seen as forming a crucial part of ITV's efforts to double its annual revenues to some £1.2 billion by 2012.

Existing content deals include an agreement with 20th Century Fox that enables the two companies to remake each other's programmes for their domestic markets, and tie-ups with various content producers in the UK, Canada and Australia.
