Carlton Communications and Granada Media, controlling shareholders in the ITV network, are said to be mulling a bid for the broadcast properties of cash-strapped Scottish Media Group.

SMG, said to be under increasing pressure to reduce its £400 million ($613.04m; €618.67) debt mountain, would have little option but to accept any half-decent offer. Its broadcast assets include Scottish Television and Virgin Radio.
