MindShare, the WPP-owned global media planning/buying network, will make its debut in India with a 6.0 billion rupee ($129.6 million) housewarming gift – the sub-continent’s largest ad account, Hindustan Lever.

MindShare’s remit also covers media buying and planning for all Lever group brands in India and neighbouring markets such as Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan.

According to Hindustan Lever chairman M S Banga, the decision reflects the company’s concentration of marketing effort on fewer, larger brands. The media buying consolidation is in line with this strategy and aims to simplify and focus marketing investments to maximise returns.

MindShare already handles the $700 million US business for Hindustan Lever’s parent, Unilever.
