Italian-headquartered fashion titan Gucci, the world’s third largest luxury goods group, has unveiled a joint venture with UK designer Stella McCartney – daughter of Beatles star Paul – to create a new range aimed at women.
The new McCartney label promises to be backed up with a major marketing drive. Commented a Gucci spokesman: “Certainly there will be important marketing and advertising efforts in all the markets where the brand will be sold. We don’t know yet what it will be, but there will be a big push to make the brand known.”
Gucci declined to comment on whether the new label would utilise an existing roster agency or whether a pitch would be held for the duties.
The McCartney brand is part of the group’s drive to expand outside of its flagship Gucci label. Another UK designer, enfant terrible of British fashion Alexander McQueen, also recently agreed to work for the group.
The new line is thought to be slated for launch in Western Europe, North America and Japan by year-end.
