NEW YORK: WPP Group has strengthened its presence in North America with the launch of GroupM Canada, an umbrella organisation to coordinate the work of its major Canuck media agencies.

David Campbell, co-president of the Canadian arm of MediaCom, has been appointed president/ceo of the new unit, which will act as a "parent and collaborator" with member agencies MediaCom, Mediaedge:cia, MindShare and Maxus.

Campbell says GroupM Canada will enable WPP to strengthen both its position and reach in the country. He will remain at MediaCom until a successor is appointed.
