The head of Steve Morrison, chief executive at Granada Media, is set to be served on a plate as a sacrificial offering to the Gods of London EC2 in atonement for the failure of ITV Digital.

His departure – predicted for several weeks – comes against a background of rising investor disquiet at falling advertising revenues and the £1.5 billion ($2.30bn; €2.34bn) collapse of ITV Digital, jointly-owned with fellow ITV franchisee Carlton Communications.

It is believed that the vacuum left by Morrison will be filled by the group’s executive chairman Charles Allen, who is reportedly set to assume many of the former’s responsibilities.

From the Granada bunker last night, the word was ‘no comment’.
