SINGAPORE: Google, Colgate and NTUC Fairprice are among the most popular brands in Singapore, a survey has discovered.
Superbrands partnered with The Nielsen Company to survey 1,500 netizens in the country, asking respondents to choose their "favourite" products and services across a range of sectors.
Search giant Google headed the rankings ahead of Colgate, after the two firms shared first place in a similar poll from 2009.
"Both brands received a higher number of votes than last year and increased their dominance of their respective categories," said Mark Pointer, ceo, Superbrands Singapore. "However Google's increase was the greater."
"This reflects Google's increasing brand value around the world as well as in Singapore together with the brand's high top of mind awareness and positive perceptions by Singapore's consumers."
Supermarket chain NTUC Fairprice climbed one place to fourth, beating off telecoms provider SingTel, up from sixth spot.
Newspaper the Straits Times, communications and media group StarHub, electronics manufacturer Sony, web specialist Yahoo, convenience store operator 7Eleven and Nippon Paint completed the top ten.
"The overall results are very similar to the previous survey that we commissioned last year," said Pointer. "The same ten brands identified previously have managed to retained their overall position within the top ten.
"[This] is a reflection of the strength of these brands and their ability to retain consumer loyalty and sustain their category dominance."
