GUTERSLOH, Germany: Improving economic prospects are bringing in their wake a warmer advertising climate in one of Europe's biggest media markets.

German broadcasting and publishing giant Bertelsmann has posted a 6.8% rise in third quarter operating profit before interest and taxes, citing an "improved environment for key advertising markets".

Operating EBIT in the quarter rose to €281 million ($359m; £188.7m) from €263m a year earlier. Sales rose 2.4% to €4.4 billion.

At Berlin-headquartered Axel Springer, publisher of Germany's biggest newspaper Bild, net Q3 profit climbed 14% to €61m from €53.6m a year earlier. Revenue was down 1.6% to €563m million.
