Political magazine George, founded by the late John F Kennedy Jr, is to close after publication of its March edition.

The fate of the magazine has been uncertain since the death of JFK Jr in a plane crash in July 1999. However, the straw that broke the camel’s back is George’s inability to attract sufficient ad revenue.

“The recent softening of the advertising market has only compounded George's situation,” explained Jack Kliger, chief executive of the title's owner Hachette Filpacchi Magazines. “The likelihood that George's prospects will improve in this environment has become remote.”

The curtain will fall on George after a final issue featuring interviews previously conducted by the magazine’s founder.
