French broadcast group TF1 is the latest predator to begin circling the carcass of KirchMedia, one-time flagship of the defunct Kirch Gruppe media empire.
The Gallic firm has written to UBS Warburg, which is handling the sale of KirchMedia’s assets, to declare its interest in the unit’s free-to-air TV holdings.
However, TF1 cautioned that it is only at a preliminary stage in the bidding process, adding that it has a “long-lasting, cautious habit in the choice of its investments.”
Having filed for insolvency in April, KirchMedia is trying to restructure before it is sold. Its majority stake in German broadcasting giant ProSiebenSAT.1 is expected to be the jewel in the reorganised firm’s crown.
