DEARBOURN, Michigan: On the basis that every little helps in tough times, Ford Motor Company has invoked the muscle of Microsoft to launch Sync, an in-car communications and entertainment system that will enable drivers to download music, locate addresses and receive text messages in audio format.
The flexibility of the technology is touted as its major strength. Not only will it enable any cellphone or digital media player to operate within the car, either via voice commands or the auto's radio controls, it will also support up to twelve different cellphone, PDA or media devices.
Hypes Microsoft chairman Bill Gates: "Ford and Microsoft share a vision for a future where drivers are safely connected to the people, information and entertainment they care about while they are on the road."
Sync will be offered as an option later this year on fifteen models, among them the Ford Focus, Explorer and Montego.
