The Federal Trade Commission has warned over 100 unnamed online retailers that they will be expected to fulfil promises about deliveries over the Christmas holiday.
The move follows the $1.5 billion of fines issued last year against seven e-tailers which failed to notify customers about delays and promised shipment dates they could not meet.
The FTC has now discovered around one hundred internet traders claiming to deliver within 24-48 hours, a tactic it described as “a powerful message to consumers rushing to fill their holiday shopping list”. It will now send letters to such companies reminding them of their obligations.
